The story of the association of concrete construction contractors, known as THE CEMENT LEAGUE, going back to the beginning of the century, and comprised of the principal concrete building construction firms of all times, must naturally be entwined with and part of the story of concrete. It is the story of the mud hut that grew into a stone (poured) skyscraper, an industry which has grown from a few million dollars per year business to hundreds of millions or more today and is the biggest single item in dollars and the most important in the construction of large structures.
In an endeavor to give an outline of this industry as related to the members of the "Cement League", history must rely upon memory more than on factual data, and few memories can go back faithfully, forty years or more so that the following lines and stories are those given by various members, and the personal memories of many are all contained in a book available in unbounded editions at The Cement League office.
